Kakagi Arabians as a breeding farm was founded with the purchase of SH MSana in 2000, our first broodmare. We had first fallen in love with the Arabian breed after the purchase of our riding gelding Talhalla, then fell in love with the Russian bloodlines as we began to research and learn about Arabian breeding. Mpulse was one of the accomplished Russian sires of that time who attracted us to the bloodlines, as described in Arlene Magid's research he was a multi-regional winner in halter and performance along with being a US National Top Ten Futurity Colt, and was also the sire of National winners in both halter and performance. We made a trip to Wisconsin and Michigan in 1999 to visit Shadowood Farms along with Grand Arabians, Gaslight Farms, and Selket Arabians, on the search for our first Russian-bred broodmare. SH MSana was the right fit for us at the time, and we brought her home as a 2-year-old in 2000.
After growing up and starting her under saddle training, we went on the search for a stallion to start her broodmare career. The perfect match was found in the Russian/Polish Monogramm son Kilogramm SPA, resulting in the arrival of Karenina kgi in 2004. Karenina was everything we'd hoped for and gave us a lot to be excited about for the future with both her and her dam. Sadly though, Sana was lost to us that fall after a sudden and brief illness. It was a devastating loss for our young program, but thankfully her daughter Nina and granddaughter Nastasia kgi remain a part of it today.
