Excerpts from articles with reference to Ferhan:

Pearson, Colin A. "Influence Of The Crabbet Horses On Russian Arabian Breeding Programs". Arabian Horse Times December 1981. W.S. Inc., Waseca, Minnesota. p. 314.

"FERHAN

A very interesting stallion is FERHAN. Ferhan must have had a lot of favorable characteristics as two of his sons and five of his daughters were retained. They were all out of mares from French bred stock. Perhaps it was the style of the horse that caused the Russians to mate him with the French mares. They certainly didn't mate him with the Crabbet mares. A Ferhan daughter, FADBANKA, had a son PROFIL by Priboj who was quite successful as a performance horse and was champion of Russia in the Three Day Event in 1961. Although the blood of FERHAN is relatively rare in Russian pedigrees, it is quite exciting as FERHAN is an ancestor of PIRIT, who is the sire of *NAPITOK who has been so successful over here. PIRIT has a sister in Tersk, PATRIOTKA and she is continuing to breed there. Pirit's brother, *PLASTUN is in Canada. I would mention that Patriotka, Pirit, and *Plastun (all by Aswan) have a larger percentage of Crabbet blood in their pedigrees than a lot of the horses in Russia. Generally speaking, the percentage does vary from 25 to 75%. In many cases it is around 37 1/2% and this seems to be a level at which the authorities like to keep it. There are a few horses in Russia with small or no Crabbet blood in their pedigrees, but these are rather rare items. In the same way horses of predominatly Crabbet blood in their pedigrees are rare in Russia, too."
